IBC Bunds

The IBC bund also known as an IBC spill pallet has become ever more increasingly popular over the last 20 years. They are designed to capture a minimum of 1100 Litres of liquid in the event of an IBC failure, and in doing so comply with all liquid storage regulations. If you have an IBC on site that contains anything other than water it must either sit in a bunded area or be sited on a bund. Fines for non-compliance vastly exceed the cost of purchasing an IBC spill pallet. All IBC bunding from Spillshop is manufactured in the UK.

The IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) has seen a rapid rise in popularity over the years. Where once small to medium sized businesses used to take delivery of their liquids in 205 Litre drums, this has largely been replaced (where applicable) by the IBC. Faster handling at delivery and return stage and lees time spent decanting have added to the rise in usage. At the same time as this emerging popularity the current rules for storing them were coming into force. For an abbreviated overview of these regulations please read our Storage Regulations guide. All IBC's must be stored on a bund pallet with a minimum capacity of 1100 Litres.
Spillshop have a variety of compliant single IBC bunds manufactured to meet these regulations. Made fro Polyethylene they are strong, durable and have a broad chemical compatibility.

Double IBC

Double IBC bunds for storing two IBC's are permitted when either the two different liquids stored on them will not react and/or where the two IBC's are not linked together. Here the regulations state that the spill pallet must have a bund capacity of 25% of the total capacity stored on it or 110% of the largest vessel. Every spill pallet supplied by Spillshop will come with the option of either coming covered or with a raincover. Depending where your IBC and bund are sited will determine whether you need these options. If sited indoors, or outdoors but undercover you do not have to consider them. If however your IBC is not undercover and sited outdoors you have to protect the bund from the ingress of rainwater. This is achieved by purchasing the bund with an attached cover or by purchasing a separate raincover.

IBC Overflow Trays

All of the spill pallets bar one have the option to purchase an overflow tray. These handy devices clip over the side of the spill pallet under the outlet tap or pipe to catch any drips. They are large enough to house a pail or collection container if you need to decant small amounts of liquid. More importantly they are designed so that if they were to become full, all overflowing liquid will feed back into the bund. So, if for instance a tap to fail or accidentally be left open, the contents of the IBC will accumulate in the bund and not all over the workspace floor.
All IBC's are manufactured with forklift pockets for ease of movement and positioning.
