Spill Rolls & Mats

Spill rolls and spill mats are long lengths of material wound onto a roll that are capable of absorbing liquid spillages. Most rolls are perforated at set distances allowing a predetermined continuous length of absorbent material to be easily ripped off for use. Plain rolls will need to be hand cut to length allowing for exact measurement to be achieved. Ideal for using on the workfloor or on work benches with many different widths available for dealing with any liquid.

Spill Roll Types

There are three types of spill rolls available, chemical rolls, oil & fuel rolls and general purpose & EVO rolls. Each has different abilities to absorb different liquid types and are broken down as follows:- General Purpose & EVO spill rolls are suitable for solvents, oil & fuels, non-corrosive liquids, common fluids and water based fluids. Oil & Fuel spill rolls are suitable for solvents, oil & fuels and some common fluids (will repel water based fluids). Usage

Spill rolls are a very versatile product. They can be ripped to a short length to be used as a continuous roll of spill pads or ripped in long lengths and placed on work benches prior to disassembly or messy jobs. Wider rolls are more generally used on the floor, such as along the length of lathes or milling machines where cutting fluids can splash onto floor areas. Using the absorbent rolls in this way means the machine operator is not walking around on a slippery floor, eliminating the potential of slipping accidents.

Widths

To suit a variety of applications the rolls are available in width sizes of 13cm, 30cm, 38cm, 40cm, 48cm, 50cm, 76cm, 96cm, and 100cm giving an unrivalled choice to the end user. Becoming ever increasingly popular, customers are choosing to mount their rolls onto roll holders to facilitate easy dispense. The roll holders are available as floor standing or wall mounted and both come in four different widths to accommodate any size roll of your choice.

Thickness/Absorbency

The absorbent capability of each spill roll is dictated by its thickness. The most absorbent roll in the Spillshop range is the Premium thickness roll, comprising of many many layers of melt-blown polypropylene woven together for maximum absorbency. The Premium thickness range roll, are ideal for dealing with situations where a reasonably large volume of liquid will need to be absorbed. The mid-range Double thickness rolls are an all-rounder, still capable of dealing with a reasonably large spill and flexible enough to be used as a wipe. The Single thickness roll can still be used in exactly the same way as its thicker counterparts but also have the ideal ability to be used as wipes to clean up messy and oily machinery or components.

Description

Like the spill pads, the absorbent rolls are available in two formats, bonded or plain. Bonded rolls have the layers of the roll spot-welded together making them incredibly durable and fit for heavy duty usage. Furthermore, these rolls are perforated along the roll length allowing them to be torn to a required size resulting in less wastage if used properly. Plain rolls are not spot-welded together, leaving a slightly rougher feel which allows this type of roll to start absorbing at a quicker rate than the bonded ones. In some thicknesses the plain rolls are slightly more absorbent than the bonded options. The plain rolls are as strong and durable as the bonded ones, but the surface of the plain rolls may start to deteriorate quicker than the bonded ones when used in a vigorous environment.

Packaging

The most popular way of packaging the rolls is 'poly wrapped', simply wrapped in transparent plastic packaging, cutting down on the cost of purchase and the end cost of disposal of the packaging. Packaged this way keeps the rolls dry and free from contamination. In some case the rolls are supplied in traditional cardboard boxes.

Spill Mats / Traffic Mats

Spill mats or Traffic mats as they are sometimes known are designed to be walked on. Only available as a general purpose option they are popular deployed in walkways to keep a floor area from becoming slippery. The unbacked version is simply a very rugged hard wearing absorbent mat that will allow spillages to be absorbed but will not prevent them from coming into contact with the floor underneath. The backed version is the same mat but has an impermeable backing attached to it (a bit like a household door mat). This prevents any liquid coming into contact with the floor underneath and is used primarily to protect sensitive floor coverings. The traffic mats come in widths of 91cm and come as either a continuous roll that can be cut to a desired length or in packs of five in 3M lengths.
