Regulations
Currently, there are no written legal requirements governing the size of spill kit you have to have for a given scenario. We know this is not very helpful if you do not have a lot of expertise in this area, but we are here to help. If you have been asked to “get a spill kit for that” or comply with what the audit says and get a spill kit”, we have compiled a help sheet on how to choose a spill kit which will give you some useful guidance.Types of Spill Kit
We offer a variety of spill kit types for spill management: chemical spill kits, oil & fuel spill kits, general purpose & EVO spill kits (sometimes known as maintenance spill kits), bodily fluid spill kits, mercury spill kits and adblue spill kits. Each spill kit can absorb different liquid types, and knowing what each one does will help you make an informed decision:- General Purpose & EVO spill kits are suitable for solvents, oil & fuels, non-corrosive liquids, common fluids and water-based fluids.
- Oil & Fuel spill kits are suitable for solvents, oil & fuels and some common fluids (will repel water-based fluids).
- Chemical spill kits, such as mercury spill kits, are chemical absorbent but can take care of hazardous liquids, solvents, oil & fuels, common fluids and water-based fluids just as effectively.
- Bodily fluid spill kits are specifically designed for safely cleaning up bio-hazardous substances, providing protection against potential pathogens.
Sizes
Spill Shop’s range of spill kits boasts absorbent capacities ranging from 15 Litres up to 1100 Litres. Through our website, we make it easy and effortless to find the right sized spill kit for you and your requirements. All of our general, oil & fuel and chemical spill kits state the absorbent capacity in their product name for a fast and easy search. To be clear, this is what the contents of a kit can physically absorb, not the capacity of the kit’s container. Risk assessment and an awareness of the worst-case scenario spill in your workplace will help you in selecting the correct capacity kit for you.Packaging
Spill Shop’s spill kits come packaged in a variety of formats. The smaller sizes come with carrying handles, shoulder straps or bins, all of which are portable by hand. The mid-range and larger kits come in wheeled bins, static lockers and wheeled trunks, again portable by hand or by forklift. All kits supplied come clearly labelled with the spill type so you are acutely aware of how your spill kit will come packaged.Contents
The contents of a spill kit, be it a chemical, oil and fuel or general purpose spill kit, will vary depending on its size. In general, all of our spill kits contain absorbent pads, absorbent socks, disposal bags & ties and a contents & instruction sheet. For more specialised spill kits, the contents may contain drip trays, absorbent rolls, absorbent cushions, drain protection in the form of drain seals, plugging granules to repair holes and splits in drums or tanks, and barrier tape to caution others.Usage
All Spill Shop spill kits are designed to be suitable for spill management in both indoor and outdoor environments. This versatility ensures that whether you're dealing with a mercury spillage or any other hazardous liquid, you have the means to respond swiftly and effectively. Some larger kits come supplied in weatherproof containers suitable for outside storage, so you don’t have to worry about making space in your workplace.Refills
At Spill Shop, we think that it is unnecessary, costly and environmentally unfriendly that once you have used a spill kit, you should have to replace it with a completely new one. This is why we offer refills for all our spill kits that have a dedicated section in the store. Simply purchase a refill kit and put the contents back into the original packaging. The outer packaging of a spill kit often costs more than the contents it holds, so our refills are a great money-saving tactic for your business. What Are Spill Kits For?
Spill kits are used for emergency spillage situations that require a quick response to contain and absorb spill liquid. This, in turn, prevents slip hazards, contamination, otherwise harm to those in the area and environmental damage. Spill kits package all the necessary equipment you need to clean up a particular spill, from chemicals, oils, fuels and bodily fluids depending on the kit you opt for. They are essential in various work environments, including workplaces, laboratories, industrial sites and healthcare facilities.Do Spill Kits Expire?
Spill kits are made up of many components. In general, spill kits that only contain absorbents have an unlimited shelf life as long as they are stored in ambient and dry conditions. Spill Kits that contain plugging granules or clay drain covers may have different expiry dates, plugging granules typically last two years before losing effectiveness, again this will depend how and where they are stored. However, rather than having to refresh the entire spill kit when one part expires, you can replace individual products with our vast store collection. Can Spill Kits Be Reused?
Yes, certain parts of spill kits can be reused, such as PPE, and drip trays. However, many pieces of equipment are single-use (absorbent pads, rolls, socks, clay drain covers etc.) and will require proper disposal and replenishment once completely used up. Instead of replacing the entire spill kit, our spill kit refills allow you to replace single-use equipment without spending extra on a new packaging element.Where Are Spill Kits Located?
Typically, spill kits are placed in high-risk areas, such as areas on the premises where liquids are stored, transferred or decanted. However, this can vary. For information on where you may find a spill kit, read our guide to spill kit placement.Showing 1–30 of 134 results
