IBC Bunds
IBC bunds, also known as IBC spill pallets, have risen in popularity in the last 20 years for their ability to capture 1100L of liquid or more while complying with all liquid storage regulations. In the event of an IBC failure, a bund is an additional safeguard and if you have an IBC on site that contains anything other than water, it must either sit in a bunded area or be seated on a bund. Fines for non-compliance vastly exceed the cost of purchasing an IBC spill pallet, so there’s all the more reason to stock up well, and at SpillShop, we offer a range of spill containment solutions and UK-manufactured IBC bunds that give you the necessary protection.
Single IBC Bunds
Where small to medium-sized businesses once took delivery of their liquids in 205L drums, IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers) represent a more robust alternative where applicable. These containers enable faster handling at the delivery and return stage, with less time spent decanting the contents. All IBCs must be stored as a bunded ibc with a minimum capacity of 1100L. SpillShop has a variety of compliant single IBC bunds manufactured to meet these regulations. These chemical bunds are made from Polyethylene to be strong, durable and compatible with a broad range of chemicals.Double IBC Bunds
Double IBC bunds are permitted when either the liquids of two different Bunded IBCs will not react and/or where the two IBCs are not linked together. Here, the regulations state that the IBC bund spill pallet must have a bund capacity of 25% of the total capacity stored in it, or 110% of the largest vessel. If your IBC Bunds are outdoors without cover, you have to protect the bund from a potential ingress of rainwater. This is achieved by purchasing a bund with an attached cover or by purchasing a separate rain cover. Every bunded IBC spill pallet supplied by SpillShop comes with the option of either an attached cover or additional rain cover, depending on where your bunded IBC and bunds are sited.IBC Overflow Trays
Almost all SpillShop IBC spill pallets can be purchased with an overflow tray. These handy devices clip over the side of the spill pallet under the outlet tap or pipe to catch any drips and are large enough to house a pail or collection container if you need to decant small amounts of liquid. More importantly, they are designed to feed excess liquid back into the IBC bund if it starts to overflow, avoiding further spillages. If, for instance, a tap fails or is accidentally left open, the contents of the IBC will accumulate in the bund and not all over the workspace floor. All IBC spill pallets are manufactured with forklift pockets for ease of movement and positioning.
